FAQs

If you are a beginner you will have lots of questions and may think everyone will be better than you or you have to have previous experience. Wrong! Deirdre has lots of experience and her philosophy is that everyone will be producing work in the first 3-4 lessons.

Her jewellery school is fun and she makes learning new skills a real joy. Deirdre holds end of term parties and there are exhibitions and talks throughout the year. This is a real chance to learn a new skill, make friends and impress your family. Plus, the satisfaction gained from making your first piece of jewellery is unforgettable!

The following may help solve your question but if not, just contact Deirdre and she will be happy to chat to you.

1. What sort of metal do you use?
All the metal is either sterling silver or 18ct gold, which we will be hallmarked in London. The workshop has it’s own stamp.

2. Is it easy to learn?
Yes, she will take you through every stage so you become confident working with both the tools and metal. We have students from beginners to advanced. Everyone is very friendly and the more experienced students are always happy to help out.

3. What do workshop classes cost?
Classes cost £200 per term (10 weeks). You also have the opportunity to make up a class if one is missed. The only extra is the materials. It is difficult to give an exact cost on this as all the silver is sold on weight, however, a necklace costs about £30 – £65 and a pair of earrings could be £5 or less!! Think of the beautiful unique pieces you could make.

4. When is your next course starting?
The current course is fully booked, please see side panel for our next course date or go to the contact me page and send a message.

5. What can I make in my first term?
We make a very popular silver loop necklace as it teaches you lots of techniques which you can use on other items.

6. Is the workshop a safe environment?
We have an excellent safety history in the workshop and before you start we conduct a safety program so you will be fully conversant with the workshop and tools.

7. Are the classes suitable for all ages?
Due to some of the techniques and tools used, the workshop classes are only suitable for adults age 18 years and older.

8. How many people in the class?
The classes only have between 5 – 6 people so everybody gets lots of attention.

9. Is the workshop easy to find?
Yes. It is conveniently situated in Welwyn Village, Hertfordshire, junction 6 on the A1M.

10. Can I purchase a term of classes as a gift?
Yes, this would be a lovely surprise. To purchase purchase gift vouchers use the contact form or call Deirdre on 07974 045167
