Activities and News

During the year, we also enjoy talks from guest speakers and social events.

Annual Summer BBQ
This year we held our summer BBQ in June, so we managed to have a lovely sunny day talking jewellery and have bit of a gossip over a light lunch and a glass of wine. It’s very informal and a fun way to spend an afternoon away from the workshop benches.

2017 – 2018 Class Timetable
The next course will start Monday 11th September – 21st November 2017

We will be covering the famous link necklace that all the students start with and is a piece which will introduce all the basics but still enable a beginner to finish with a standout piece of jewellery to be proud of.

The course will also feature photo etching and depending on your ability, the handraising of spoons and bowls.

The 2018 course will start Monday 15th January – 27th March 2018 – So come and join us, try something new whilst learning a new skill.

2017 Christmas Talk by Susan McMeekin
Every year we plan a talk from an artist or a guest connected with the art of jewellery. We can learn so much and be inspired by our guest speakers and our students find the talks really informative.

This Christmas we are very excited to have as our guest speaker renowned artist Susan McMeekin Des RCA. FRSA. Susan has designed pieces for Royalty, Heads of State and some of the wealthiest clients in the world. Susan’s work is held mostly in private collections but the V&A exhibits one of her rings which was bequeathed by a client.

Annual Christmas Dinner
At Christmas we always have a wonderful time preparing for the Christmas dinner. We down tools and serve up a roast turkey with all the trimmings. It’s a lovely social occasion for all the students to talk jewellery, techniques and celebrate our successes together.
